Cleaning the Whale Rock Trail, One Step at a Time

Published Thu 05 Mar 2026

On Sunday 1st March, a rainy morning, the 1st  Cherrybrook Scouts — Joeys, Cubs, and Scouts together — took part in a special community adventure "Whale Rock Trail Run" (https://www.whalerocktrailrun.com.au/). While runners tackled the trail run, our youth members walked the same route as part of Clean Up Australia, making sure no rubbish was left behind.

From the moment they set off, the Scouts showed what teamwork really looks like. Joeys eagerly scanned the path for small pieces of rubbish, proudly calling out every find like it was treasure. The Cubs formed mini “collection squads,” competing (in the friendliest way) to see who could fill their bag the fastest. The Scouts helped guide the groups, checking the edges of the track and offering encouragement to the younger members.

Along the trail, they found drink cups, stray wrappers, and the occasional mystery item that sparked plenty of giggles and guesses. Every piece they picked up meant a cleaner path for the community and a healthier environment for the bushland.

By the time they reached the end, the bags were heavier, the trail was spotless, and the Scouts were tired but smiling wide. They didn’t just follow the runners — they followed the Scout spirit of service, leaving the area cleaner than they found it.

It was a simple walk with a powerful impact, and Cherrybrook Scouts proudly showed that even small hands can make a big difference.
